THE NILE RIVER’S INFLUENCE ON THE ANCIENT EGPYTIAN CIVILIZATION by Mardelle Zhao ‘27

Abstract:

Ancient Egypt is considered to be one of the greatest civilizations in history. Nevertheless, its prosperity ties closely to the Nile River. Therefore, this essay will investigate the Nile River's influence on the development of ancient Egyptian civilization. It aims to do so through analyzing three aspects of ancient Egyptian culture: agriculture, trade, and religion. Without the annual flood of the Nile, ancient Egyptians would not have been able to create such a large production of crops every year, have diverse religious beliefs and mythology, or construct both monumental structures and houses. These lasting impacts still benefit modern Egypt today.
